The Top 10 of '10
The most commented upon posts on Ur from 2010.
Well Urbanites, as another year draws to an end it's time to look back. Here are the most commented upon (a.k.a. the most argued about) post from the last 12 months. There plenty of politics in here covering the health care debate and Glenn Beck. Social justice continued to stir the passions, and it wouldn't be right to not have a bit of Mark Driscoll to add some spice to the list. Enjoy, and we'll see you on the flip side.

I'm sorry but Haggard is biblically and theologically confused.

"There's nothing like spending other people's money in the name of compassion."
Ain't that so true, I mean seriously, when will the Government realize that giving more tax-payer money to the filthy rich on Wall Street and the Business world is just not compassion, it's redistribution of wealth!

The top 50% of wage earners pay over 96% of the taxes as you know. So, when the poor got extra income tax refunds from Obama, it wasn't their money in the first place, it's just the government doing another redistribution of wealth. Those who pursued an education at huge expense while many sat around taking drugs and couldn't be bothered with actually "working" deserve their hard earned money. Sorry you don't like that. This has become a government with a huge number of people who think they are entitled to other people's money. What they're entitled to is the same opportunities to work, not sitting on the dole, waiting for the gov't to redistribute the money. As Thomas Jefferson said "To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it."

Our health care system is a national sin, worse than abortion, and God will judge our nation for it.
When we tie life-and-death health care to a person's income, we place mammon ahead of God.
I find no difference morally between a woman having an abortion and a man voting to deny health care to those who can't afford it. Except that abortion is sometimes used to save the life of the mother, whereas voting against universal health care is done only for money.
And please spare me the "emergency room" argument. When you can get a mammogram, an ultrasound, or chemotherapy at the emergency room, then you might have a point.
It is a shame that far more secular nations have far more Christian systems for taking care of the "least of these" than this country. We had better hope that salvation is based on faith, not works, for if our actions matter to God we are all murderers.

Fish, those "...secular nations [who] have far more Christian systems for taking care of the "Least of these"..." are broke and their economies are falling apart. What do you suggest?

"those "...secular nations [who] have far more Christian systems for taking care of the "Least of these"..." are broke and their economies are falling apart."
So...they're kind of like us...broke, and falling apart...too bad we don't have a Christian system in place to at least be on par with those "secular" nations.

Jesus did not tell countries to set up health care plans, and if he did, He would not set up one as dishonestly as this one was done. Unlike other countries, this one pays for illegal aliens health care, this one has no tort reform, this one pays for abortions, and this one has panels, with people appointed by Obama, with no congressional oversight, despite obama's lies to the contrary, it's in there. If you go to other countries, you will not receive free health care, it's for their citizens, not for millions of people who just come wandering in. Obama is purposefuly printing out trillions of dollars, making our currency worthless in other countries. People in some other countries are now turning down the dollar. Our dollar used to be THE standard until Obama took office. He is purposefully making the dollar worthless. But please! If you want to give your money to the government and earmark if for medical care, please do so. But they are not allowed under our Constitution to force us into a healthcare plan that has the IRS involved, and jail time for people who do not want to participate. Poll after poll have found that the majority of Americans don't want this, most are happy with what they have. You don't speak for the majority of Americans, and you don't speak for God. We have a huge deficit, and if you really want to talk about morality, you would not want to leave our children, and their children, with a huge deficit so massive that they have to work until the age of 75 or later, before they can retire. Don't forget that to spend one trillion dollars, you'd have to spend one dollar every second for 32,000 years. If you want to be moral and do what Jesus would do, you would work for your own bread (insurance in this case) like the Bible says. I think Jesus would be sickened by what they're trying to pass on to the coming generations, because there is no way in the world to pay off the debt Obama is building for them. If it's so great, why are Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and a few others excluded from having to use it? The ones that were the major players in writing this sneaky, immoral health plan are excluded from having to use it. When they are willing to actually use a health care plan that they write, then maybe it will be worth something, but in any case, there is no money to pay for it.

"...Since the citizens of those countries you so admire..."
to which I say...
"whats good for the goose is good for the gander!"
And just for good measure...
"the governments have no credit to borrow more money, why do you wish to become like them? "
what do you mean "become like them"?
We are like them.
You should pay more attention to the jungle growing in your own backyard before criticizing your neighbors weeds.

Fish, you are so right!!! Being pro life is so much more than being against abortion. It is making sure people have enough to live on and that everyone can have adequate health care and a safe place to live. People can call it redistribution of wealth if they want to, but I call it following Christ's command to love our neighbor. I, too, think God will judge us by how well we take care of the least of these! In fact, Matthew 25 says He will.
